102 Days of Lying About Lauren
After being abandoned by her mother, twelve-year-old Mouse calls an amusement park home. She sleeps on the top floor of the Haunted House of Horrors and does her best to go unnoticed around the park. But one day, someone comes looking for her. Will Cat be able to find Mouse? More importantly, does Mouse want to be found?
Note: I think this book is best suited for older MG readers.

Iceberg
An absolutely captivating historical fiction story of survival! I was hooked early on and couldn’t put it down…even knowing what happens to the Titanic! Hazel is a curious stowaway on the ship who wants to be a journalist when she grows up. She starts asking questions and her journey reveals to the reader what went wrong and some reasons the Titanic sank.

Mountain of Fire: The Eruption and Survivors of Mount St. Helens
A narrative nonfiction story about what led up to the eruption of Mount St. Helens in 1980 and the accounts of those who survived the blast. Although scientists tried to piece together clues about what would happen, nobody was prepared for the reality of the blast.
Note: Not everyone in the book survives, so if you have readers who will be sensitive to that, this might not be the best fit.

When Sea Becomes Sky
Bex and Davey’s summer is different than expected because of the drought, and then they discover a mysterious underwater statue! They begin the hunt to uncover the statue’s origins and then realize they need to attempt to save the statue and their beloved marsh. But things are not as they seem, and they have a lot to learn about life, permanence, love, and loss.
Note: This is a “crying book” and if you have readers that do not like this type of book, then I would suggest skipping this recommendation. A great read, but it’s sad!
