We are heading into one of my favorite reading seasons of the year…fall and winter! The cooler weather makes me want to curl up with a blanket, a mug of hot tea, and a good book.

A Dragon Used to Live Here
A sweet story blending contemporary realistic fiction with fairy tale elements. There is also a story within the story and this would be an engaging read aloud for your pre-middle grade readers and young middle grade readers (think 1st-3rd grade).

Honestly Elliott
Baking. A new baby brother or sister. Best friend moved away. ADHD.
Elliott has a lot going on since he started middle school and now he also has to juggle a partner project at school. Elliott is a perfectly imperfect main character and this is just a fun and engaging middle grade read.

Mihi Ever After
Three girls accidentally fall into a fairy world and face a tough question…should they stay in this new world or try and return back to the real world? If you have young middle grade readers who have enjoyed the Whatever After series, this is a great next read!

Superworld: Save Noah
When a meteor crashed to earth, everyone got a superpower. Except Noah. And now it’s up to him to save the world. The story has a movie like feeling to it and there are engaging black and white illustrations throughout the book. A great read for any reader who enjoys superheros!

We Own the Sky
A historical fiction read that I would only recommend to upper middle grade readers due to the serious nature of the content. You’ll step back in time to 1924 Maine where the Ku Klux Klan is on the rise and stunt pilots are all the rage. The stunts are dangerous and there are serious threats building up behind the scenes.

Wildoak
An absolutely beautiful story that feels like reading a classic. Step back in time to the English countryside and meet Maggie, an exotic snow leopard, and an ancient forest. Maggie has been sent to live with her grandfather as a last ditch effort to “fix” her stuttering. There she fights to save a snow leopard and a forest. One of my favorite quotes from the book, "Everybody has something about themselves they want to change, Maggie. Whether it's the way they look, the way they sound, where they're from, what they own or what they don't own. Some of us feel it more than others. But the truth is, and I believe this with all my heart, there's room in this beautiful, complicated world of ours for all of us. Just as we are. In fact, there is a need for it."
