The Wild Journey of Juniper Berry
Most survival stories take place in the wilderness. But what if you grew up in the wild and then had to survive at a middle school in the city? Juniper has spent her whole life living deep in the woods, but when her brother gets sick and the hospital bills start to pile up, she has to move to the city. A story of perseverance, compassion, and belonging.

The Year of the Buttered Cat
A mostly true story by mother-daughter duo, Susan and Lexi Haas. When she was just a tiny baby, something terrible happened to Lexi. It left her with an out-of-control body and without a voice. The story is told in alternating timelines of Lexi’s childhood and the present when she is counting down the hours until she undergoes brain surgery. An incredibly thought provoking memoir that I would recommend to upper MG readers (5th grade and above).
