I love seeing books set in Scotland (since it's where I'm from!) have to admit, I've heard nothing but good about Place to Hang the Moon too, but I tried reading it and I found that it sounded really american to me, which really pulled me out of the story. I gave up when she called custard creams a cookie -_- But since everyone I've heard mention it says it's excellent, maybe I should give it another try??

Since I’m American, I wouldn’t have noticed things like the custard creams 🫣, but I can see that pulling you out of the story. One suggestion would be to read her second book, Nothing Else But Miracles. It has all the same feelings and emotions, but it’s set in the US.
City Spies is the best!!! I’m listening to book three right now, and it’s so good! I have a review for the first book coming out soon.
